BreakFestival: Strengthening Family Bonding and Changing the World One Family at a Time

We are a family of six (dog not included). My husband, myself and our four children. We live in a small apartment near the kids’ school and we share a six seater plastic monoblock dining table, nothing fancy. Since our house is small and our dining table is quite long, we usually push it against the wall and stack the monoblock chairs so we can make space when we need a quick trip to the comfort room or we need way to go back and forth upstairs. Every meal time we have to assemble it in place so we can all eat together.  As time...

Liempo Recipe Using San Pedro BBQ Sauce at Iba Pa

How do you like your store-bought liempo? If you ask me, I’m not a fan.  A friend asked me to try San Pedro BBQ Sauce at Iba Pa, I used it to marinate my pork belly for grilling and look what came up. Tasty, juicy and tender liempo!   A few tips when marinating any meat! 1. Never marinate meat at room temperature. Marinate your meat in the fridge. 2. Never reuse uncooked marinade. If you are making a sauce, boil leftover marinade to kill bacteria. Here’s my liempo recipe: Liempo Recipe 2016-11-25...

What’s for Breakfast? Mekeni Longanisa and Egg

We don’t usually eat together for breakfast on a school day.  My eldest daughter leaves for school at 5am and my three other children leaves at 7:25am.   We only eat breakfast together on a weekend where the kids sleep in and everybody wakes up well-rested and refreshed. Every Sunday I make sure that we all eat breakfast together.  It’s the best time I show off my best home-cooked meal.   It’s sometimes restaurant-style dining experience. 😛 I love it when my  youngest daughter Lily in her...

What’s for Breakfast? NESTLÉ MILO Breakfast Cereal

Roll your eyes if you like, but I believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and my kids will never leave home without it. When I’m doing my grocery list I only have one rule for breakfast menu.  Breakfast should be simple, nutritious, and easy to prepare (I don’t like eating sinigang or spaghetti for breakfast and so are my kids.). In my breakfast menu there is always NESTLÉ BREAKFAST CEREALS because they have delicious and nutritious whole grain breakfast cereals such as KOKO KRUNCH, HONEY...

Beef Tapa with Bell Peppers Recipe

I regularly check for new recipes online, last week I thought of trying Chinese Pepper Steak recipe from one of my favorite food blog site.  It’s pretty easy to do, but I will be needing tons of herbs and spices I’m not familiar with and I’m not sure where to get.   So I thought of something else, but close to the  Chinese Pepper Steak recipe I found online. I opened my fridge and I saw Mekeni’s Beef Tapa and some bell peppers.  Perfect, the beef tapa has already been seasoned and...

Food Blog: Basil Pesto Pasta Recipe

I tried making basil pesto pasta a few years back and never again I tried it until today.  I think I put too much basil in my pesto sauce it turned bitter and had become inedible.   This time, with the help of some friends who knows how to make the best basil pesto pasta I made it just right!  My children loved it and asked I should make it again. Instead of using pine nuts, like what is in most recipes you will find in the internet, I used cashew nuts and I think it tastes just as good as using pine nuts.  Plus the...

Knorr #LutongNanay Pork Sinigang with Pakwan Recipe

Who likes sinigang? I do! I do! Second to adobo, I think, sinigang  is the comfort food most Filipino people enjoy in any occasions.  It’s a complete meal in one pot! 🙂  Here’s my home-cooked photo of Pork Sinigang (just please do not try to go near your computer screen and slurp the soup, it won’t work.) 😛 ! It has sitaw (string beans), okra, kamatis (tomatoes) and kangkong (water spinach)! And of course, my favorite Knorr Sinigang na may Gabi!  For that creamy sour soup, nothing...

Easy Matcha Cookies Recipe

I’ve been seeing matcha flavored donuts, ice creams, and smoothies pop up all over the place recently.  They all tastes really good, I personally love Starbucks’ Green Tea Crème Frappuccino.  My son, Ruben calls it alien drink and can finish a tall glass fast.   I’ve been also seeing matcha cookies everywhere but haven’t tried it out, curious how divine it tastes like, I thought I make one at home. 🙂 The flavor of matcha is somewhat grassy, slightly sweet and a bit bitter. It’s...

Steamed Lapu-Lapu Using Simple Touch Food Steamer

Steamed Lapu-Lapu Using Simple Touch Food Steamer

I never realized  that there are so many advantages to owning a food steamer that I started wondering why I waited so long to get one.  Ever since I got the Simple Touch Food Steamer I started steaming most of our food, even hotdogs! Yes, hotdogs! 🙂 I just learned that steaming is one of the most nutritious ways of cooking food, because it allows the boiling water to vaporize into steam, and this steam heats the food without removing its nutrients. The food always stays separate from the boiling water and this results in a...
