Are you tired of your Week 1: Adobo; Week 2: Tinola; Week 3: Fried Chicken?

If your answer is YES, here’s  the Chicken Asado recipe from Yummy magazine’s website.  It’s sweet, savory… very kid friendly!

Here’s some fancy props I used to tell a story (the true story behind this chopsticks was: I bought it for P60 at Greenhills, I saw it at Regalong Pambahay in Trinoma at P120.  Do your math.).

And finally, here’s the recipe to make your own chicken asado:


2 tablespoons cooking oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 medium onion, diced

1 kilo bone-in chicken thighs

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 200 grams tomato sauce or banana ketchup

2 tablespoons sugar

½ teaspoon 5-spice powder

4 pieces star anise

2 cups water

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

1 Heat the cooking oil in a cooking pot.  Saute garlic and onion until browned.
2 Add the chicken thighs and cook until browned.
3 Pour the soy sauce and tomato sauce, while stirring constantly. Add the 5-spice powder, star anise, and sugar.
4 Add 1 to 2 cups of water and let it boil over low heat for about 30 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
5 Season with salt and ground black pepper. Serve with warm rice.
